Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?

Posted on

I’ve been a bad, bad, bad food blogger today. I don’t have a recipe to share tonight.  I don’t even have pictures of what I made for dinner.  I’ve become a tad wayward for a good reason though.  Today I had one of my dearest friends Sharlene over for a late lunch/early dinner. You may remember I mentioned her when I made her a birthday treat, Sharlene’s Sweet Surprise.  Well, I haven’t seen her in months.  It’s not because we didn’t try to spend some quality time together. Sometimes stuff gets in the way of life and the important people in your life.  Sharlene and I finally had enough of talking about getting together and finally just did it.  I invited her over to break bread.  What better way to share time with someone, show them you care, than with a home cooked meal just for them?  I was so happy to spend the time with her that I forgot all about taking pictures until after our bellies were full.

Tonight’s meal was broiled bacon wrapped sirloin steak with seasoned rice and a Caesar salad on the side. We sipped on a Chilean Pinot Noir and giggled because no matter how old and mature we get, women will always giggle with their best girlfriends. Finally, dinner was topped off by brownies à la mode. These were moist brownies, fudgy brownies, decadent brownies.  Brownies with a secret.  I’m going to call them Sharlene’s Secret Brownies.  So named because I slipped little squares of chocolate covered caramels into the batter before baking.  Like the other dessert I made for Sharlene, these held a sweet, gooey center you don’t notice until you bite into the brownie. HE-AV-EN!

Although, the brownies were pretty close to being the zenith of the night, the best part of the evening was spending time with a good friend.  If there’s someone you haven’t seen or spoken to in a while, invite them over to dinner or just for wine and chocolate. Trust me, they’ll appreciate it, and you’ll only wish you had done it sooner.
